I just finished my embroidery project (I'm really not sure about using this term.. I've been jokingly referring to it as neo-freeform embroidery.) its thick & heavy, and that element is very satisfying. my idea with this piece was to use all neutral / calm tones and soft textures, but to create something abrasive & somewhat hectic through excess of design & stitching. I find excess really difficult, so it was an interesting project for me
the background is a textured hemp/cotton fabric I bought, the base shapes are constructed around scraps of different natural fabrics- linen, the same hemp/cotton, felt, leather, raw silk- and the yarns are alpaca & a homespun angora
( btw we're having dark / harshly lit days, I'm finding it hard to take a decent photo.. )
Caitlin I really love this piece-all the texture but done in a calm, soothing, neutral way..Debbie
ReplyDeletethank you, Debbie!
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous, Caitlin! I was wondering what you were going to do with it when you showed it in your previous post. It's so textural - I just want to run my hand over my computer screen and feel it :)
